When God Opens What You Cannot See

Devotional for Wednesday, March 18, 2026 based on the Revised Common Lectionary readings:

Psalm 146:1-10
Isaiah 60:17–22
Matthew 9:27–34.

There is a thread running through today’s readings.
God restores what is broken.
God replaces what is lacking.
God opens what has been closed.

In Isaiah, the Lord speaks a word of transformation.

Isaiah 60:17
“Instead of bronze I will bring gold, instead of iron I will bring silver.”

This is not just improvement. This is restoration with intention. God does not simply repair life. God renews it with something better, something deeper, something that reflects His glory.

But notice how this happens. It is not rushed.

Isaiah 60:22
“At the right time, I the Lord will make it happen.”

There is a timing to God’s work.

And that can be hard.

Because we want clarity now.
We want change now.
We want breakthrough now.

But God works in a way that forms us while He restores us.

The psalm reminds us where to anchor ourselves while we wait.

Psalm 146:3–5
“Do not put your trust in princes… Happy are those whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord their God.”

Our hope is not in people.
Our hope is not in systems.
Our hope is not in what we can control.

Our hope is in the Lord.

And then we see this hope in action in the Gospel.

Matthew 9:27–30
Two blind men follow Jesus, crying out, “Have mercy on us, Son of David.”

They cannot see, but they believe.
They cannot see, but they follow.
They cannot see, but they trust.

And Jesus asks them a question that reaches beyond their condition.

“Do you believe that I am able to do this?”

This is not just about healing their eyes. This is about the posture of their hearts.

“According to your faith let it be done to you.”

And their eyes are opened.

This is the movement of faith.

Not having all the answers.
Not having full visibility.
But choosing to trust Jesus anyway.

So today, hold these truths together.

God is restoring.
God is working.
God is opening what has been closed.

Even if you cannot see it yet.

🙏🏽 Prayer

Father,
Teach me to trust you even when I cannot see clearly.
Help me to believe that you are working, even when I do not yet see the results.
Give me faith that follows you, calls out to you, and rests in your timing.
Restore what is broken in my life, and open my eyes to your presence.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
